Tournament Info

Students attending as part of the prep squad should review the rules posted here: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e0c4aafa823aafe3-edina

Even during break, the University of MN is a busy place and many people come and go from the various buildings.  DO NOT LEAVE ANYTHING OF IMPORTANCE UNATTENDED.  In the past we’ve had coats, bags, and laptops stolen from various rooms.  Make sure your kids know that this is a public place and to take their belongings with them or leave things that aren’t needed at home.

Policy and Public Forum rooms will be in Blegen Hall.
LD rooms will be in Anderson Hall, Blegen Hall, and Carlson.
Congress rooms will be in Carlson.

Rules posted here—the same as Sections re: evidence and internet usage. https://www.mshsl.org/mshsl/publications/code/finepolicy/Debate.pdf

Rounds 1 and 2 - Entries will be randomly placed in a schedule for rounds 1 and 2 based on the following criteria: Entries shall uphold each side of the resolution; entries shall debate two different sections than their own. Entries will be broken into two (2) groups based on section results; a top bracket (those finishing in 1st, 2nd and 3rd place) and a bottom bracket (those finishing in 4th, 5th and 6th place) within their respective sections. Entries shall debate one (1) top bracket and one (1) bottom bracket from different sections. NOTE: In policy debate the top bracket will consist of 1st, 2nd and half of the 3rd place entries. The bottom bracket will consist of the other half of 3rd play entries, 4th and 5th place.
Rounds 3 through 6 – Will be paired high/low within win-loss records. Entries within each bracket will be ranked in order based on wins, drop high/low speaker points, total speaker points then by draw. If a group has an uneven number of entries, the entry with the lowest opponent wins shall be drawn up and ranked accordingly.
Round 4 and 6 – Entries will be scheduled with respect to side-constraints to ensure an equal number of affirmative and negative rounds occur.

Food
There will be limited food options on Friday (the Subway by Blegen). There will NOT be a concessions stand for the tournament.  Pack a lunch and plenty of snacks for Friday and Saturday.  There’s a Chipotle within walking distance on the West Bank, but it will be up to the coaches attending the tournament to figure out logistics for meals, so having cash on hand would be useful.
