All-team + Parent Meeting

The annual all-team all-parent meeting:

Thursday, September 15th 6:30 PM at EHS Fick Auditorium.

Coffee and cookies served at 6PM courtesy of the Edina Friends of Forensics.

It's important to have a parent and debater attend so that we can start the season on common understanding of expectations and the nuts-and-bolts of how you can help your debater.

Practice returns to Edina High School for the rest of the season.

A few items of note:
  • Generally speaking, 2nd year LDers should be with Hayley for practice and more experienced LDers should be with Andy.  We've made some accommodations for debaters based on their schedules.   Some debaters may move between the two groups to make attending two practices a week possible.
  • The Friday practices for experienced PF are optional, but encouraged.
  • TOC Policy practices are remotely done from home on Tuesdays.

Practice and Tournament Calendar

We've put together a calendar for practice time slots this year.  We haven't divided up the Green and White groups yet, but this division has been done to facilitate debaters who have conflicts with UMTYMP.

A National Champion, School of Honor, Mountain Hikers

A short recap of the 2016 national tournament:

Theo Teske won the middle school extemp speaking championship!   Lucca Figari was a national semifinalist, missing finals on a tie-breaker of judge preference.  In his final speech, Theo's ranks were 2-1-1-1-1 and he was the #1 seed throughout the tournament.  It's our first middle school championship.  Pictured below are all of the middle school champions at awards -- Theo is on the far right.
In the high school portion of the tournament, Anne Lepow and Sukriti Rawal were our highest placing entry, finishing in the top 20 in Policy debate.   They debated a string of top-level teams -- Rowland Hall, Glenbrook South, Glenbrook North, and Montgomery Bell Academy.   In the picture below, Anne and Sukriti are facing Glenbrook North.
Arvind Velluvali finished in the top 30 for Lincoln-Douglas debate and Max Schleck was an octofinalist in International Extemp speaking.  Both Max and Matias spent time helping Theo and Lucca -- one of the best qualities of our team our commitment to each other.  Edina earned a National School of Honor award (1 of 20 schools) for the second year in a row.  Below is whole nationals group and their awards.
Finally, after an 11 hour practice and scrimmage session, we took a break and went for a short hike in the Wasatch mountains.

These mountains are beautiful!

Thus ends the 2015-16 season!
