Practice and Tournament Calendar

We've put together a calendar for practice time slots this year.  We haven't divided up the Green and White groups yet, but this division has been done to facilitate debaters who have conflicts with UMTYMP.

Then we've posted a tournament/important days calendar and a traditional PDF calendar of practices and tournaments.

Practice begins August 15th.

A National Champion, School of Honor, Mountain Hikers

A short recap of the 2016 national tournament:

Theo Teske won the middle school extemp speaking championship!   Lucca Figari was a national semifinalist, missing finals on a tie-breaker of judge preference.  In his final speech, Theo's ranks were 2-1-1-1-1 and he was the #1 seed throughout the tournament.  It's our first middle school championship.  Pictured below are all of the middle school champions at awards -- Theo is on the far right.
In the high school portion of the tournament, Anne Lepow and Sukriti Rawal were our highest placing entry, finishing in the top 20 in Policy debate.   They debated a string of top-level teams -- Rowland Hall, Glenbrook South, Glenbrook North, and Montgomery Bell Academy.   In the picture below, Anne and Sukriti are facing Glenbrook North.
Arvind Velluvali finished in the top 30 for Lincoln-Douglas debate and Max Schleck was an octofinalist in International Extemp speaking.  Both Max and Matias spent time helping Theo and Lucca -- one of the best qualities of our team our commitment to each other.  Edina earned a National School of Honor award (1 of 20 schools) for the second year in a row.  Below is whole nationals group and their awards.
Finally, after an 11 hour practice and scrimmage session, we took a break and went for a short hike in the Wasatch mountains.

These mountains are beautiful!

Thus ends the 2015-16 season!

Bring about $20 a day for food.  Our hotel has free breakfast, there is food at every competition venue, and then in the evenings we'll hit up some place along the lines of a Noodles or Applebees.

Clothing - bring 3 days of competition clothing.  If we have a 4th day, we'll deal with it after then.

Flight Info
This example uses Arvind's name, but it's the same for everybody.  We depart Minneapolis at 2:40 on Saturday, June 11 @ 2:40PM.  Return the following Saturday at 8:12PM.

We want to meet at 12:40 so that we have plenty of time to pass through security.

Meeting location:  On the lowest level where the shuttle train brings people over from the parking ramps.  There is a Delta group desk in this area.  Basically enter doors 4 or 5 and go all the way down the escalator.  (Arvind -- this is where we met when you went to Grapevine 3 years ago.)

Seeking New Debate Team Members

We are searching for new members to join the award-winning Edina debate team.  Start by attending the informational meeting.  We'll make our case for you to join the team, see a demonstration debate, meet some of the coaches, and have the opportunity to ask questions.  Coming to the meeting doesn't obligate you to join the team.  Students who will be in grades 8-12 in the Fall of 2016 are welcome to join.

Reserve your tickets to attend the informational meeting + bring a parent.
