Monday 9/25 Notes
The Edina Debate Team got off to a flying start this weekend in both Minnesota and Iowa. Some brief news and notes for the week ahead.
- Jamboree Results:
- Policy: Edina Holtmeier/Bothwell finish 2nd (3-0) and Anderson McElligot/Ding finsh 5th (2-1). Novices had their first competitive round. Edina LT, MP, BW won their debates.
- LD: JV Debater Ellen Mi went 4-1 in a crowded JV field, while Edina NH and OJ went 3-2 in Varsity.
- Public Forum: Lily Jones and Aditya Rewalliwar went 5-0 in JV PF, finishing 2nd. The novice teams of Mehta/Chen, Smalley/Tessmer-Tuck, Opitz/Hickey, Chochrek/Holt all went 2-1. The varsity teams of O'Brien/Chockrek and Bevers/Maynor went 3-2.
- Congress: Leah Schmitt finished 4th in her chamber, while Saumya Mangalick finished 1st in her chamber and Yash Mangalick finished 7th in the same chamber.
- Valley Mid-America Cup:
- Overall, a great learning experience for both Policy and LD. Edina YY finished 2-4 in their first varsity circuit tournament. In LD, Edina SC and MK lost their 3-2 bubble round.
- Public Forum had a terrific weekend. The Edina team won the team sweepstakes award in PF. 3 teams cleared to elimination rounds. Matt Nissen and Khalid Ishani started 0-2, won their next 4 debates to clear to octos, where they lost on a close 2-1 to SPA--Khalid finished as 5th speaker. Michael Santoni and Zach Paradis also lost their first 2 rounds, won their next 4, then won their octos debate, and lost their bid round on a 2-1 decision--Michael finished as 3rd speaker. The final team to clear to elimination rounds were the team of David Ma and Richard Zhu. Off to a flying start to the season, MZ won all 6 preliminary debates, won their octos, quarters, and semis debate, and lost the final round on a 2-1 decision. MZ 11-0 in preliminary rounds thus far to start the season.

- Tournament Commitment Form: the deadline to fill out your tournament commitment form to be registered for this weekend is TONIGHT, MONDAY SEPTEMBER 25 at 8 pm.
- Parent Judge Training: Our first judge training last Friday was well-attended by interested parents. Our next training is Tuesday night from 6:30 to 7:15.
- Parent Judge Sign-Ups: We are at a full entry for the first time this season: parent judges ARE A MUST for this weekend at Rosemount. The sign-up link can be found here. If you're interested in judging, and can't make the training on Tuesday, please email Coach Tim.
